Today I thought I would share something that I don’t talk about with a lot of people. It is one of the major reasons that I write this blog, one of the major reasons that I have a quirky sense of humour and why I try to make people smile and be positive each day.
When I was in high school I was bullied for a couple of years; it got to the point where I had to leave the school I was at. At the time it felt like the whole world was against me and I actually feared going out in public for a while simply because I was scared that I would see someone from school.
It was a pretty rough time and I’m sure that if I were to go back in time and be a fly on the wall it probably wouldn’t be as bad as I thought it was. I truly believe that going through that stage in my life made me stronger; it made me acutely aware of the kinds of people and personalities that exist in the world. It took a while but it made me understand that there is no good reason to hide who you are. We are all unique characters and I believe that we have the ability to be a positive force in each other’s lives. The reason I bring this up is because I made this video below the other day and posted it on my social media for all my friends. There have been a few funny videos of late where I have been dancing; they have all made people comment and laugh, I figured that this one would be no different. It is a one minute video so give it a watch, if you haven’t seen it already.
The first feedback I got about the video after posting it was really negative, quite hurtful comments, not your average troll or hater; these words cut deep. The comments almost made me take the video down. For a moment I regressed to my teenage self. After some deliberation I decided to keep the video up because I didn’t want compromise my values. My values for life and Raw Motion Fitness are to make the world a happier, healthier place, a place where people feel better and enjoy life. Does the video check those boxes? Yes. Is the video a little stupid and silly? Yes.
I feel if I can make people laugh and relax, even if they are laughing at me not with me then my job is done. You see, ever since my experience at high school I have always strived to be myself. I have always strived to get a long with most people. I was being silly in the video, but that is part of who I am; and my Ukulele skills…. Well they are far from musical but I try not to take myself too seriously all of the time. If we take life to seriously all the time then we are in danger of losing touch with ourselves.
For a split second I let someone else dictate my thought processes and I doubted myself, there is a lesson in that. You have to believe in yourself in order to be yourself, you don’t need much self belief to start building momentum. Sure, you’ll have set backs in confidence throughout life but ultimately if you can create a positive energy in your life then that will always trump the negative energy.
My mission to you this fine day is to go out there and be yourself, if you don’t know how then just start with having some fun. As long as your intentions are good and you have a smile on your face then you can’t go wrong!
I’ll catch up with you in the next blog post where I have a special story to share with you.
Tune in again soon, STAY STRONG and KEEP MOVING!
