Here's to a happy and positive start to the week!
If you tuned into the blog a couple of Monday's ago you'll know I wrote about Ben and his broken back. He had a motorbike accident in 2012 that left him fighting to walk again. If you haven't read about his inspirational journey back into health and fitness then I suggest that you - CLICK HERE - have a read and then come back to this post.
Ben was scheduled for surgery towards the end of this month to 'cage' his spine and straighten it out. During his pre-op check in (last week) with his doctor he was told that surgery was no longer necessary; the reason being that all the hard work that he has put in gaining strength and muscle has helped to support his back better than anyone could imagine.
The operation was going to be a tricky one; because of the angle of entry they would have had to take out a rib, go past his lung and risk permanent paralysis. I spoke to Ben just before writing this post because I wanted to make sure I had understood everything he had told me. His words were simple; "I feel like I have been given years of my life back with the decision not to operate, it would have been months of bed rest and even more months of rehab to get me to a level where I could start getting stronger again." "It is overwhelming news and I am more determined to move on with things now and become even stronger."
Ben has been pushing himself hard with ZUU training for a while now, and as a result has prevented invasive surgery by strengthening his back. In his own words he said, "the bear crawls helped me so much because it prepared and mobilised every joint and muscle in my body without putting pressure on my spine."
I am super happy for Ben and I hope that you are too; I hope that he can serve as even more inspiration and motivation and help you towards your goals. He has come up against some pretty heavy odds and pulled through stronger and happier for it. He is a shining example of what can happen if you focus on making yourself stronger each day.
If you found this post motivational and you'd like to learn more about ZUU then add me on Facebook by clicking here and you'll see the videos that I put up; you can then try the moves yourself! Let's make sure we fight to get back any mobility we have lost.
Have a great week ahead, go and chase down your goals!
