This Is What I Wanted…
When the penny finally dropped in 2013 I realised that I was severely overweight and unhappy with myself. At the time I was in Scotland for my sister’s 30th birthday.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself that trip because it was an active holiday in a beautiful place, the one part that I didn’t enjoy was buying my own snacks to hide in my room. Though I didn’t enjoy it I knew it was safer than eating all the food in the house that other people might want. 🙂 It was a way for me to hide my issues, even though just looking at me was a clear sign that I had a bit of a problem…
I sat in my room the one night, nibbling on my crisps after a long day of walking and I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t it be great to be able to make it through some exercise or a walk without feeling like death.”
Back to the story of Friday. My friend Gaz (who reads this blog, hi Gaz) also has the luxury of being born in November. We decided late on Thursday night that the weather for Friday was looking good, plus it was his actual birthday. We both wanted to do something a little different to celebrate, so we packed our bags, and set Ken (the Australian GPS)up with the address to Snowdon in Wales.
I really wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of a climb because I have never really climbed a mountain before. Gaz on the other hand has climbed quite a few. Words simply cannot describe the climb but I have made a video to sum it up and I have linked it below.
I don’t want this blog post to waffle on and on about things, I also don’t want you to sit there thinking I am looking for praise. I would like you to sit back in bed or on the train or where ever you are reading this and watch something that will inspire you to jump up and get moving. Just over 3 years ago I couldn’t walk up a hill without stopping, all I wanted to do was feel better about myself and move better.
On Friday I managed to achieve more than just reaching the top of Snowdon, sure I had climbed a mountain without feeling like death, but I felt I wanted to prove that anyone can overcome their demons. Inherently there is a reason mountains serve as the perfect analogy for life…
You just have to put one foot in front of the other, sometimes you will stumble, you’ll face major obstacles, but if you believe in yourself and stick to your convictions then you will succeed in getting to where you want to be!
Go out there this week and give the world the best version of yourself, take positive steps towards your future.
Trust me; the view is worth the climb!
Enjoy this video!
STAY STRONG AND KEEP MOVING!
