We all need to have a routine.
Routine? What does that mean? Rigid schedules and boring work?
That’s not what I mean.
A routine is simply a sequence of actions that you follow regularly. Having a well-planned routine will help you be happy, empowered, energetic, and successful.
Think of your routine as a set of appointments with yourself to do certain things at certain times. It’s so important to have when you’re trying to lose weight and get fit, here’s why…
1. Routine helps build positive habits. We can allow time for actions that help us with our health like going for a walk at a set time every day. We can include time to prepare healthy meals, exercise, rest, relax, and have fun.
2. An anchor. No matter what’s going on in our day, knowing what we will be doing at specific times can be a real comfort. We will cope better with uncertainty and the unexpected blips in our day.
3. More efficient. Routine takes the guesswork out of the day. It allows you to wake up and ‘do’ instead of wake up and ‘plan’.
4. Less stress. Having a daily routine will help to reduce stress levels. Trying to remember everything we have to do in a day is confusing and frustrating. When we have a routine the things we have to do slot in. We don’t have to think about them anymore. We are more in control and less stressed.
So, plan your day, or even your week. Think about the outcomes you want and allow time to achieve them. It won’t be perfect – sometimes a job will take longer than you expect, or someone pops in unexpectedly. But structuring your time increases the likelihood that you’ll achieve your goals.
