Some may call the title clickbait, I like to call it a headline to clarify what my focus is.
For the last 3 years I have been working pretty hard on Raw Motion Fitness as company and as an extension of me; my mission is to make the world a happier healthier place through being a personal coach and trainer. I enjoy helping people become fitter and stronger because most of the time it means they are doing something that they never thought possible.
My work, over the last 3 years, has been put towards the blog and online clients. It has been a great time for me as having a business online and writing has allowed me to grow and spread my story far and wide. It has also given me the chance to connect with my past and understand what caused me to have my weight fluctuations. (More to come later this year in my book.)
Whilst working online has been awesome the fitness industry requires valuable first hand experience in coaching, especially if you are looking to expand and offer quality training sessions. Over the last 2 years Virgin Active Solihull has been instrumental in allowing me to learn and grow as a trainer and as a coach. Weekly classes, interaction time with members looking for help and training courses have taken me from being someone scared of talking to groups of people, to someone that thrives off the energy created when people come together for a positive, common cause.
It became apparent to me last year that I needed to realise the potential in Raw Motion Fitness as a fitness brand and the potential in my own abilities as a coach. I had to re-read a books to help me clarify my thought processes, I spent many nights sleeping very little, trying to get my head around what I was going to do.

I kept thinking to myself, 'The more time that I spend investing in my own creative activity for my entire self, rather than spreading myself thin doing 40 hours a week as an employee, the more I will thrive.’
I made the decision to change things.
Over the next four weeks Raw Motion Fitness will be expanding and taking on clients to train 121 in a private studio space in Solihull. I will be stepping out of my current role and focusing on my life's work, Raw Motion Fitness. I have been communicating this to friends and family and it seems right that I blog about it.
This blog is where Raw Motion Fitness started and is a major part of my life. As a result of word of mouth I have already got 6 face to face clients on board, with space for 6 more at this time, so my slots are limited.
The main website has changed to accommodate the different packages that I offer, one thing I will stress is that personal coaching is indeed PERSONAL. There are millions of ways to achieve great results, my role for the last 3 years has been; to facilitate a progression and change in an individual that promotes confidence in their posture and character through development of good movement patterns and good mindset.
To me, there is nothing more rewarding that seeing someone become confident in themselves and their abilities, especially their ability to move. Being able to lift someone up and help them change their lives gives me immense job satisfaction.
So why am I writing about this today?

The truth of the matter is that you should always believe in yourself. It was a tiny bit of faith and consistent hard work that got me to this point from the rather large person that I used to be. The best part about any positive change that you make, when you start to gather momentum it is simply just the beginning as good energy breeds good energy. When I moved to America in 2007 to play golf and go to College (University) I spent time socialising with various people. Most of whom were there for an athletic scholarship - chasing the dream of being a professional in the sport of their choice.
I remember meeting a guy one day called Tomàs, he had a baseball cap on, he was quiet and unassuming, he wasn’t from America, he was from Venezuela and he was all about his baseball.
As a golf team we would often try and make it to any other team’s games be it baseball, softball, basketball or volleyball; the teams would always support each other in some way. It was a great atmosphere and it was a sad day when I couldn’t go back because I ended up losing touch with a lot of people.
After I returned to the UK I became bigger and more enclosed in my weight gain my mind became more detached from the life I lived in Texas; playing golf and being a part of a team became a thing of the past. Despite being connected via Facebook to most of my friends from America I didn’t feel like I wanted to let them know how far I had strayed from where I was.
After I lost all my weight I started to connect with people again and I found Tomàs, training hard and still showing passion for the game of baseball. I saw through social media that he was working as a coach at Momentum Sports Academy in Baytown, Texas.
Tomàs had moved to America to play baseball and chase the professional dream, despite his best efforts an injury caused him to retire early and focus on completing his University degree without being able to pursue his dream. I didn’t know this until I saw a picture of him (below) and it blew my mind. I couldn't believe how big he became after I left America.
The last time I had seen him in person he was happy, healthy and playing the sport he loved. Somehow he had strayed from his fitness path in life too and I wasn’t sure how. Tomàs had been through some tough times and in a similar way to me he had found himself on a slippery slope, reaching 225lbs (102 kilograms), unhappy, drinking too much, eating too much bad food and moving too little.
One evening he sat with his roommate and they both decided that the next day they were going to the gym to get fit at 5AM. Call it a fleeting moment of will power or a realisation of their potential for change, they were inspired. Despite the positive plan set forth Tomàs went to bed thinking that there wouldn’t be a 5am and his days of getting more unfit would keep going. He had self doubt, coupled with mood swings and a lack of motivation. I think we’ve all been there, lying in bed at night and planning our fitness routine in the morning, only to hit snooze on the alarm and roll over for a little more time in bed.
5AM came, Tomàs was woken up by his roommate and the morning gym routine was born. The more he trained over the following 6 weeks the more he became himself again. There was less fast food, less fizzy drinks; all the poor nutrition was replaced with lean meats, good meal prep and laser focus on becoming fitter and stronger every day.
At the same time as the positive change was starting to take hold, Tomàs was accepted to complete his Masters Degree in Human Performance. He fell in love with learning about the human body and that is what led him to become a trainer and coach at Momentum Sports Academy.
Tomàs now brings people the same inspiration that was brought to him at 5AM every morning when he was at his lowest point. He brings people closer to their goals each day; “The best and most rewarding thing I have heard from the people I train is that they have the ability to play with their grandkids and have a new lease on life.”

Tomàs has since started his own fitness company in Texas, offering motivation and fitness training for people who are in need of the help that he was given to kickstart the positive change in his life. The one thing I learn each day and that continues to amaze me is the story behind each and every person I meet, there is a story. To you, your life may be boring but your story could hold the inspiration for someone else to change their lives.

Stay Strong and Keep Moving!
In the last couple of months I have been working on a project with a friend of mine called Simon. The project is called We Move and this week is the week where we unveil what we have been working on.
Both Simon and I have clients that we help on a weekly basis - we are always trying to keep them progressing by offering as much peripheral support as possible. The major obstacle that we seem to come up against as personal trainers is TIME. Time is at the forefront of everyone’s mind when it comes to fitting in exercise, so we put our heads together and we have come up with a great solution to help people get some exercise in each week.
Let’s face it, people have busy lives and exercise, more often than not, takes a back seat. Simon and I are very passionate about getting people moving, we are also very solution based when it comes to getting people off their chairs and into some movement.
We have joined forces to make 20 minute high intensity exercise videos that can be used to train along with ANYWHERE! All you need is an internet connection and to sacrifice a few pounds every month, when I say that I mean money and weight! Money being £3.95 and weight is dependant on how often you train. 😃
HOW IT WORKS
We Move offers the weekly workout videos to you through a secure Member Zone on the We Move Website. The videos contain footage of me, training and Simon talking me, and you of course, through a simple workout.
The videos are uploaded every Friday and an email update is sent out to all the subscribers. To become a member you simply Sign Up by agreeing to a £3.95 monthly recurring payment to PayPal. We Move then creates a secure login for you in the member zone and you are all ready to go!

ARE YOU FIT ENOUGH?
The workouts have been designed to test you physically and mentally, that being said you don’t have to worry about being super fit to get involved. It is simply a case of pausing the workout if you are in desperate need of air. In short, anyone is fit enough to do the moves, regressions and progressions are available.
One point I'll make is that I used this training style to lose my weight, I spent time learning how to manage my time to achieve my goals, I spent time each day and week building a strong mindset by pushing myself with HIIT training.
We Move started out as an idea to get people training hard, cutting out the gimmicks in the industry and getting people fitter no matter who or where they are. Over the last two months it has blossomed into a top quality fitness training tool with some great feedback from our trial groups.

It’s Monday again folks and I'm here to provide you with a dose of motivation.
I was trying to tell a story of a friend that I had met in Texas when I was playing golf out there in 2007 but his blog post is not quite there yet. So you’ll have to make do with another story from my past.
This is not something that I have told a lot of people but in 2009 I got heavily into reading up about conspiracy theories. I really enjoyed trying to figure things out at first but it soon became a very negative avenue for me to travel down. It probably was the worst time in my life to start questioning my beliefs in the modern world but I guess that was all part of the learning experience.
The conspiracies coupled with the fact that I had decided to eat my bodyweight in hamburgers and crisps made me into a very cynical and angry person. To the point that I was convinced the world was going to come to some kind of end. Not in the sense nuclear fallout but something close. I let my thoughts carry me away and as a result nothing became worth planning to do, be it a holiday, getting fit, quitting smoking or finding a better job. A common thought that I had was, "what is the point in moving forward with myself if we are doomed anyway?”
It was a dark time to be in my head, I had a lot of things to work through. I quite liked the idea of the world descending into chaos because it meant that I didn't have to deal with my issues. The reality of the situation was that I woke up each day expecting the worst and after a while I realised that the world just kept turning and I had a choice to make. I could carry on being miserable or try to dig myself out of the hole I had created in my head.
The point that I am trying to get to here is that I wouldn’t want anyone to get to the point where the world ending is a better outcome than tackling their own demons. It's not a fun place to be. A lot of the time we are exactly where we need to be in order to learn about ourselves and grow; we just don't always realise it.
Whether you are overweight, underweight or anything in between you need to realise that we can set forth in the right direction for ourselves by striving to be a stronger more rounded person than we were the day before.
This week choose to be better than you were yesterday, choose to approach the world with a new perspective.
