If you tuned into the 'Jonny Series' of videos then you'll know that I was down in London for a few days last month. My visit took me to some awesome places, fitness parks, gyms, juice bars, salad bars and skate parks. Not to mention the weather was amazing! London completely transforms when the sun shines, people become a little brighter and more animated.
On the warmest day I took a wander up to a little place that I had always wanted to visit; Neal’s Yard. As I stepped into this little courtyard I could feel myself becoming happier.
There is a fantastic energy in this little courtyard, I imagine this little it as the calm, happy centre of a crazy, busy city.
I looked to my right and saw a man in a suit come out of a shop front holding a bottle of something bright and green, I knew from that moment it was where I was heading. As you walk in you are greeted by some cool music, a neatly displayed fridge filled with great products and a little area to sit and enjoy whatever it is that you choose to drink or eat.
My lack of knowledge about the place was probably very obvious. When I reached the counter I was greeted by Emma Wood, who owns the brand Blend & Press. Emma was very bubbly and explained a little bit about the concept. Blend & Press focus on being a juice bar that offers cold pressed juices; for those who don’t know what that is there is some information here: Cold Press Juicing.
Emma and her team focus creating a positive atmosphere with products that are healthy, organic and taste amazing. I had a brief chat with Emma that day and wandered off into the busy London streets with my Glow Smoothie in hand.
My mind ticked over for a couple of days and I decided to pop back to talk to Emma a bit more. Thankfully she gave me plenty of her time and I am truly grateful for the experience.
Emma has been involved in health and wellbeing industry for many years and worked with Neal’s Yard health remedies for a while. She explained that she wanted to branch out and work more with juices and other natural ways to cleanse and look after the body. Her concept for Blend and Press started in Frame Gym in Shoreditch where she laid on a single juice product to ‘test the water.’ There was genuine success and interest which has led to the expansion of the Blend & Press brand into central London.
So how does this help you?
The reason being, I saw an improvement in my skin, plus I am a sucker for Mango. The juices are not sweet and that is very deliberate, the focus is on balance, low in sugar and high in vitamins, minerals and electrolytes.
Emma’s success has only made her more focused on creating an environment that helps people feel positive and happy in their bodies. In her words, ‘we are aware of everyone’s bio-individualism.’ Simply put: each person is different and requires a tailored approach; I guess you could call Blend & Press the personal trainers of the Juice world.
It was a highlight of my week spending time with Emma and talking about the positive effects of nutrition. I guess the sceptics out in the world will always say, ‘well why don’t you just eat the fruits and veg instead of juicing it?’ And that is my point; people don’t get enough natural goodness. And juicing is one way of getting people to learn about food. Growing up I remember eating vegetables was a chore; they didn’t taste as good as sweets or ice cream. That is only because when you are eating processed food and avoiding micronutrients you are simply triggering ‘Toxic Hunger.’ For more on this topic you can view this video.
My success with weight loss was from re-programing and educating myself with juicing to enjoy a more plant based diet. A diet rich in plants and natural foods can change your life. It can change the lives of so many people in this world.
We need more people to be doing what Blend & Press are doing, we need more people to take control of their situations and educate themselves about food. It starts with you and me. Remember that money talks so the next time you go shopping or out for a meal invest in your health and not the pleasure centres of your brain. If everyone starts investing in their health, then food companies will have to change how they do things. It is that simple.
So here we go, to wrap up the kickstart week guys, I'd like to thank Jonny for being a true gent, he didn't complain much and honestly gave it 100%. I joke about him landing a new job in the same week that he took control of his schedule, but it was a genuine discussion that we spoke about when I arrived. He showed me a copy of the e-mail, which was a genuine job offer, it's not every day that those kinds of things happen. After having a few chats about it he decided to get a meeting set up and see if he would like the place. To me having a structured week and believing in himself allowed him to take an exciting opportunity!
It took 2 hours for him to decide once he was there, it speak volumes for the focus that he had that week. He was up a regular times, eating better and moving every day so there was nothing clouding his judgement. I truly wish him all the best for his future in the job, but can honestly say that I am proud of his efforts over the last 2 months! Keep it up Jonny you're a legend!

Howdy there folks! Back again with the second to last episode! Jonny pushed himself harder in this one. We started with a jog to the park which is 1 mile, then a small jog around the park to stay warm, some warming up and then the main session with some running involved.
We wrapped everything up with a run back to the flat and then some stretching. Hats off to Jonny for committing to the intensity of this workout!

Back again with day three footage! It is all about stretching and recovery, so grab a pen and paper to write down the moves, you can then add them to your program.
A lot of people do very little, if any, stretching and this leads stiffness and pain the next day, setting Jonny up for success was key; stretching and recovery is just as important as the hard workouts.
On a side note, there are no real dinosaurs in this video... That would just be way too dangerous for London.
