Today it's simple; I'll be talking to you about shifting from being motivated to doing something about it. Like I have said before in my first post below "It is Time" I never had much trouble with motivation growing up. My parents always insisted that if I had a dream then I should chase after it. It was the same for my sister, we were never held back from achieving what we wanted, we were encouraged all the way and I think that is one of the aspects of my childhood that I will always remember.
When I reached my biggest size as you have seen in my last post, "Setting Goals" I wasn't motivated for anything, the only thing that I could get excited about was going to the shop to buy food. I think the reason I was motivated was because I was craving the 'feel good' feeling that I got from food. It was a feeling that would last until the food was gone.
So how did I get to where I am now with such little motivation? I set small goals as I said before, but everyone has set some goals in their life that they have yet to achieve. In fact you can have all the motivation that you could ever want but you still need to start somewhere. The big thing for me to turn the motivation that I had into action was committing to remove all the negative aspects of my life that I had at the time. I cleaned things up, threw away the rubbish that I was holding on to, mentally and physically. I remember walking down to the rubbish bin outside the flat one-day with about 15 empty pizza boxes piled high, they were all mine! They had been sitting in the flat for ages and it was time that I got rid of them and created a clean environment for my mind. One of the biggest things that you can do for yourself is to remove things that will prevent you from being motivated. Start with your social media, everyone these days has some kind of device that links them to Twitter, Facebook etc.… Give your timelines and feeds a massive clean up, remember you are in charge of what you see on those platforms, you create your social media, unlike/ un-follow people or groups that are negative. Hide people that are always complaining online (yes that’s right we all have those people in our lives) and you’ll soon find that your day brightens up. My biggest one of all was removing the news from my bookmarks, removing the apps from my phone and distancing myself from the daily grind that the media places on your spirit. Move on to finding people to follow and interact with, pages that will lift your spirits. All of a sudden you have a recipe for goodness, that’s just is one small aspect of your life that you will have changed by being motivated then committing to your decision.
If those examples don’t help then do yourself a favour on your next movie night, rent or download the movie Limitless with Bradley Cooper, I can hear all the ladies go “oooooo,” anyway, watch that movie and take note of a particular scene. It is the scene in the movie where he takes the a drug that starts to re-wire his brain, it starts to make him think and see clearly, he goes home and looks around and sees that the place is an absolute pigsty. The first thing he does is clean everything up, make things nice an organised and then gets to work to finish his novel.
Now try and apply that to your situation, tidy up the areas that need it, get things in order and you’ll find that everything in your life becomes a little easier to manage. You might be thinking that is way to simple, yeah it is, that’s the point!
For me the biggest changes always come when I educate myself about what I am trying to achieve and then just commit to it, I try to surround myself with the idea that I am striving for. Try it out. There are hundreds of YouTube channels out there promoting health and fitness; what a lot of people don’t realise is that fitness is like that drug from Limitless; it aligns your mind and gives you focus, determination and the sense of accomplishment. There are also tons of documentaries out there that will inform you of things that you can do to make your life better.
When you are doing something for the first time your confidence will be low, mine certainly was when I started my journey and I still have a huge learning curve ahead of me. I know now that it is going to be okay because I have the support of those around me. I am truly grateful for that, and I hope that you can feel the same way about this website someday. I’d like to think that you could turn here for the chance to gain perspective and motivation.

Imagine Instagram but just for fitness! You log in, or create your account and bang! You have an instant flow of pictures in your feed that come from people around the world. What I have experienced so far is a great little community growing right there on my phone, you may be asking why this is different to any other social network, it’s because everything that is posted in the app is positive and uplifting, if you don’t believe me just try it out and see where it takes you. Your phone will glow with the purple branding and emit the positive energy that you need to stay motivated and committed. You can become a ‘Fitfam’ Ambassador and help to engage with other people in the app, to connect and encourage others in their journey, as you can see from the screen shots below there is a cool vibe about the app. I wish that this had existed when I was starting out because it would have been a great tool to help me along my journey, but I have it now and I'm going to make good use of it. This could be the community that helps you get through the day and on to better things!
I guess to sum things up for today; don’t be scared to reach out and ask someone for support, lean on a friend, engage with someone online, put yourself out there and you’ll shine! Life is a challenge and you can either be scared of it or embrace it. Just remember that when you embrace a challenge you bring a really positive energy with you and it changes things immensely. Give it a go and see what the results are like and if you feel like you need support then myself and hundreds of other people are only a few clicks away!
