A thought popped into my head the other day about why we love superheroes so much... I mean why, at the moment, is the world so captivated by the characters of the Marvel and DC comics? Upon some deep thought, and time spent people watching I think I have come up with an answer.... We can all identify with them because they share a some common ground; the common ground being humanity and wanting to be stronger versions of ourselves. Let's face it superheroes spend a lot of their time in movies understanding their past, dealing with the present and trying to make a better future... Sound familiar?
There is also a common recipe for a superhero:
1. Hardship/ inequality/ trauma.
2. Acceptance of oneself and the situation.
3. Making the most out of opportunities and becoming stronger each day.
My Point is we have all been through tough times over the last few years; I would be very surprised to come across someone who hasn't faced some form of stress or hardship - remember each person's hardship is hardship nonetheless. Therefore if you are looking for a superhero then go to the mirror and stand there for a while. Focus on every quality that you love about yourself, accept yourself and take that positive energy then use it to help yourself up. You are your own hero, so dust off your suit and make yourself proud!
It took me a long time to realise that I was my own superhero, that I had control and could save myself. Sure, I still have my ups and downs like everyone else, but I know how to help myself now. And deep down I believe everyone does too.
That's my food for thought this Friday, you might agree or you might say that it is easier said than done, but you'll only know how much of a hero you are when you get up, dust yourself off and face challenges with a smile on your face.
Have an awesome weekend guys, Stay Strong and BE YOUR OWN HERO!
